Volume Up for More Success
May 11, 2026
Ever wonder how much volume is needed when trying to call coyotes? You're not alone. One adage we like to use here at Lucky Duck is, "If they can't hear it, they won't come!" Erring on the side of too much volume rather than not enough can be the difference between calling in coyotes—or going home empty-handed.

Utilizing the powerful speaker and amplifier in a Lucky Duck e-caller can be a tremendous advantage. Getting the sound to where the coyotes are is sometimes half the battle. Wind, rolling terrain, timber, and even air density and temperature can affect how far sound travels. Blasting enough volume to cut through these barriers is crucial for reaching unsuspecting coyotes. Many hunters fail to realize that what an ecall sounds like at 30 or 40 yards is completely different out past 300 or 400 yards.

Many predator hunters are unsure about volume and often don't take full advantage of their e-caller, fearing they might scare off coyotes by playing the call too loudly. This is just another factor that hunters must navigate each and every time they set up. Ultimately, finding what works best for you and your calling style is most important, but volume can be your ally in many situations. Just because a coyote heard the sound doesn’t necessarily mean they will respond but walking back to the truck knowing you made sure the coyotes could hear the sound is far more reassuring than wondering if they ever heard it at all.
